A Tradition of Excellence
Since it opened in 1980, Paducah Middle School has united students in the "Tornado" spirit -- in classroom and extracurricular activities.
To ease the transition from elementary school, sixth-graders are grouped in teams with fewer teachers and class changes. Seventh and eighth grades are also organized by teams for more flexibility in program planning of cross-curricular activities.
We offer a variety of pre-AP services for gifted students. They include honors classes, the Duke Talent Identification Program and extracurricular Governor's Cup, Math Counts and Odyssey of the Mind academic competitions.
Four "Encore" classes are offered on a nine-week rotation: art, physical education, drama, and music.

Hancock Receives Prudential Spirit of Community Volunteer Award |
|
Paducah Middle student Meg Hancock has been selected as one of the state’s top two volunteers for 2012 by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, a nationwide program honoring young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism. She was nominated by Paducah Middle principal Tim Huddleston. The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, now in its 17th year, is conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP).
Hancock, an eighth-grader at Paducah Middle School, founded a recycling club at her school to keep recyclable trash from ending up in landfills. During a sixth-grade assignment on environmental issues, Meg was horrified to learn about the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch," an area in the Pacific Ocean filled with miles of plastic and other debris. "The trash is not only disgusting, but the debris is harming plant and animal life in the ocean," she said. Upon learning that her school did not have a recycling program, she felt compelled to do something. "I watched each day as hundreds of plastic drink containers were thrown away," she said.
